Lee Mink of Leap Farm has brought his many years of organic market gardening knowledge to our vision and has created Leap Farm at Giardini. Sustainable growing practices guide every decision made in these beautiful year round gardens. The small but intensively planted acre yields amazing heirloom produce for both the restaurant use and to supply our community network CSA.
Leap Farm is one of several local sustainable growers who all contribute to an ever expanding local CSA. Our online based system from LocallyGrown.net is an exciting and efficient weekly ordering system that allows the farmers to list their own products and prices, and lets the CSA members order exactly what they want and when they want it.
Come join us for an in-depth, hands-on learning experience in one of our many Sustainable Growing Workshops. Whether you just have a backyard garden, or are a market grower of more substance, our workshops will give you a deeper understanding of a sustainable growing process with plenty of fun and social interaction as part of the plan.
We do not use any seeds that have been genetically modified. We do not use any petroleum based products, only certified organic fertilizers and pesticides. We save most of our own seeds. We plant cover crops for green manure, we rotate crops, and we carefully plan for companion crops as well as plants that attract beneficial creatures to our space. We build raised beds for good drainage, we use natural mulch to retain moisture. And we grow with a strong intention of experiencing the joy, good health and wonderful flavors that our food will bring to all who experience it.
It seems we are harvesting something from the garden almost year round. Utilizing a large greenhouse allows us to be starting seeds, and planting and harvesting a wide variety of fresh produce on a year round basis. Come walk through the gardens or structures any time of year to see the wonder and the magic right before your eyes.
